I mentioned in a previous blog post that the South Capitol Neighborhood Association board is required to hold a meeting of its membership each year in February. I kind of buried this info in that post, which was more about how to become a member of our neighborhood association (which, just to remind you, costs nothing and is quick and easy to do on our website).
So, in this post, I’d like to explain more about the annual meeting and why we would like need you to attend.
As I mentioned previously, Article 3 in our bylaws requires us to hold an annual meeting in February and we need at least 25 members of the neighborhood association to attend. We now have 67 members (many thanks to those who have joined!) but would love to have even more.
At the annual meeting, we are required to do these six things:
- Read the minutes of the last meeting (I’ll try to keep them short)
- Give reports (President and Treasurer)
- Elect new board members or re-elect current ones
- Transact other business mentioned in the notice
- Adjourn
That’s it. If we want to do other things once we finish the official part (like meet new neighbors, socialize and eat, drink and be merry) we certainly can and will.
We also plan to do a door prize drawing from the names of those who attend and give one lucky winner a $100 gift card to Vic’s Pizzeria.
In order to reach all 609 residences (apartments and houses) in our neighborhood, we will be sending out an invitation soon via U.S. mail. One side will look like this:

If you are not yet a member of the South Capitol Neighborhood Association, you can sign up today. Or you can procrastinate then attend the meeting and sign up there. As I said, we currently have almost 70 members, but would really love more!
We would also love it if those who want to support us financially pay their annual dues at the meeting (suggested amount is $15 but really you can pay whatever you want). Dues help pay our website and post office box fees and also help cover any social events we put on like BBQ picnics and holiday parties. They also help us reach more of our neighborhood residents via snail mail.
So, keep an eye on your mailbox for your invitation and please consider joining us on Thurs, Feb 15th from 7 – 8 pm at the Lincoln School cafeteria for our annual meeting. Hope to see you there!
