Members of the South Capitol Neighborhood Association (SCNA) Board will be attending the upcoming Olympia City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 7th to bring more attention to the problem of speeding and dangerous driving on Capitol Way. We hope to have your support and active participation at this meeting as well.
At the May 7th meeting, we will present data showing how unsafe Capitol Way and Capitol Boulevard have become over the past few years. We will also share personal stories of how families in the neighborhood have been affected by people speeding and driving recklessly.
If you choose to attend the meeting in person and would like to speak, please plan to arrive at Olympia City Hall at 5:30 pm, so you can sign up for the public comment period. The meeting will begin at 6 pm.
More information about how to provide public comment is located on the city council’s website. Scroll down the page until you see the “How To Comment” section.
If you would prefer to attend the meeting via Zoom, you will need to register online by 4:30 pm the day of the meeting. A link to register for the 5/7/2024 meeting is on the city council’s Agenda & Minutes page. Meeting details and the agenda are also available there.
If you would prefer not to speak but would like to send in comments directly to the city council members, you can do so by emailing them at citycouncil@ci.olympia.wa.us.
The SCNA board members plan to attend two additional city council meetings this spring and summer. They are:
Tues, June 4th – at this meeting, we will offer solutions to the problem.
Tues, July 9th – at this meeting, we will outline tasks, assign roles and create a timeline for solutions.
Ultimately, we hope to convince the Olympia City Council that steps need to be taken by the city to reduce speeding and dangerous driving on Capitol Way and Capitol Boulevard.
Thank you in advance for your help and support in this effort.
Gerry Apple and Treacy Duerfeldt, SCNA board members
