September 8th-Social/ Picnic at Lincoln Elementary

Mark Your Calendar-  2nd Annual Picnic/Social at the Lincoln Elementary playshed/gym on Sunday, September 8th from 3 to 6 pm.

Do you like good music?  Michael Dempster’s band will be playing 60’s and 70’s Rock and Roll music.  This musical group will ask you to sing along on a couple of songs – e.g. Mr. Roger’s “Won’t You Be My Neighbor.”  Michael was the band instructor at Lincoln Elementary for many years.

We will be providing a lot of good food such as hamburgers and hotdogs.  Plus, we will have plates, utensils, condiments, water, soda, chips, cookies and potato salad.  We will have three barbecue grills.  The food will be served in the gym and restrooms will be available. We encourage South Capitol Neighborhood residents to bring a side dish and a chair.

When you come to this second annual social/picnic at Lincoln Elmentary, please stop by the SCNA membership table and pick up a free raffle ticket and renew your membership or become  a new member.  It’s free to join. There will be a drawing at 4:30 pm.  The lucky winner of the drawing will win a $100 gift certificate from Vic’s Pizzeria.  We will be honoring two local businesses at our picnic:  The Frog Pond and the Olympia Baking Company. We encourage you to support these two businesses.

Helen Johnston and Kelley Dolan will be chairing the youth activities such as bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and corn hole.

We have three exhibitors: The Deschutes Estuary project,  the Olympia Police Department and Thurston County Emergency Management.  Plus, I want to thank the Olympia School District, Lincoln Elementary Principal Marcela Abadi, the Tumwater Senior Center for storing food and the City of Olympia, which provided an $1800 grant to the South Capitol Neighborhood Association to pay for the advertising, food, and music.

I want to especially thank Sue Hedrick for making all of the wonderful signs that you are seeing throughout the neighborhood.  I have a wonderful committee that has been a great help in planning this event.  They have been meeting on a monthly basis at my house and at Lincoln Elementary. The committee consists of the following individuals: Sue Hedrick, Morgan Montes, Gordon White, Helen Johnston, Tim Davis, Emily Tilger, Treacy Duerfeldt, Scott Freeman, John Saunders, Nora Hawkins, Kelley Dolan, Valerie Hammett, and Kevin Rutherford.

I look forward to seeing each of you on September 8th at Lincoln Elementary.  Let’s get together and have fun!!
