==============================================
For thirty-five years the Kiwanis Club of Olympia has been raising organic vegetables to share with neighbors in need.
Our Kiwanis community service project, since 2007, has used the large, raised beds on the east Capitol Campus in partnership with the State of Washington and the Thurston County Food Bank.
This year our crops are focused on alliums; three varieties of onions and two of garlic. German Butterball potatoes, carrots and beets will round out the crops grown in the Capitol Camps garden. We have two other garden spaces on the west side of Olympia where complimentary crops are raised. On a year-to-year average, in the three acres, we raise and deliver over 20,000 pounds of vegetables to the Thurston County Food Bank.
Kiwanis partners with Lincoln Elementary, Olympia High School’s (Freedom Farmers program) and Avanti High School as well as other organizations to make this garden a collaborative community service venture. It’s great to have youth help with this project.
Volunteers work on Thursday and Saturday mornings from 9 am to noon. You are welcome to join us! Or stop by and visit.
