We hope you will join us at tomorrow’s third annual neighborhood BBQ Picnic social. It will be held on Sun, Sept 7th from 2 – 5 pm at the Lincoln Elementary School Playground and Playshed.
Do you like good music? Michael Dempster’s band will be playing 60’s and 70’s rock and roll music. Michael was the band instructor at Lincoln Elementary for many years.
We’ll be serving lots of good food such as hamburgers, hotdogs and Korean beef (many thanks to the owners of Frog Pond Grocery for their generous donation!) We’ll also have water, soda, chips, cookies and potato salad. If you can, please bring a side dish to share.
When you arrive, please stop by the SCNA membership table to pick up a free raffle ticket for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate from Vic’s Pizzeria. You can also become a member of the neighborhood association (it’s free), and we’ll be accepting voluntary dues, which help pay the fees for our website, post office box, and Google suite (for document storage).
The Vic’s Pizzeria gift certificate drawing will take place at 4:00 pm. We will also be honoring two neighborhood businesses – The Frog Pond Grocery and the Olympia Baking Company. We encourage you to support them throughout the year.
Helen Johnston and Valerie Hammett will help with children’s activities such as bubbles, sidewalk chalk, corn hole and many outdoor toys and games.
We’ll have a number of exhibitors providing information about the Deschutes Estuary Restoration Project, the Olympia Police Department, Olympia Climate Change Program, Thurston County Environmental Program, Street Drain Program, Thurston County Food Bank and Thurston County Emergency Management. We’ll also have some electric vehicles on display.
I would like to thank the Olympia School District, Lincoln Elementary School Principal Marcela Abadi, the Scott Lake Men’s Association (SLAM) for loaning us many chairs and tables for the event, and the Olympia City Councilmembers and staff for approving a $5000 grant to help pay for advertising, food, and music for this event.
I have a wonderful committee that has been a great help in planning the BBQ picnic. They have been meeting on a monthly basis at my house and at Lincoln Elementary. The committee includes: Blake Melancon, Rachel Neese, Eric Seder, Tyler Graber, Sue Hedrick, Morgan Montes, Helen Johnston, Scott Freeman, John Saunders, Nora Hawkins, Kelley Doran, Valerie Hammett, Lori Hewitt and Kevin Rutherford.
I look forward to seeing each of you on Sunday, Sept 7th, 2-5 pm at Lincoln Elementary. Let’s get together and have fun!
