The Olympia City Council will conduct a work session on Tues, Sept 16 at 6:30 pm in Council Chambers that will discuss, among other topics, the situation in the South Capitol Neighborhood with vacant homes being owned and operated as businesses. Work sessions are open to the public and I think it would be worthwhile for as many people as possible to attend. There is no public comment during the work session but it is helpful to hear what is said in real time.
The council will discuss a memo from the Community Planning and Development Division that analyzes the problem of lobbyists conducting business from South Capitol residences without a Home Occupation Permit. City code requires anyone operating a business from a residence to have a Home Occupation Permit and to live in the home as their primary residence. The memo is attached here.
