Help Harvest Produce for the Food Bank at the Capitol Campus

You may recall a post earlier this year about the Olympia Kiwanis Club and the Thurston County Food Bank working with volunteers to plant and harvest produce at the east Capitol Campus. That work is now yielding a lot of fresh food for the food bank – 46,000 pounds of so far. In the picture above (clockwise from left to right) Willow Scintilla (summer employee), Doug Allen (volunteer), Jess Colson (Gardens Coordinator TCFB) and Derek Valley (project lead for the Kiwanis) prepare freshly harvested carrots for distribution to those who need it at the food bank’s locations and programs.

Anyone is welcome to help out on this project. Simply show up on any Thursday morning at 9:00 at the east capitol campus, behind the Employment Security Building, prepared to work in the garden for a few hours. Several South Capitol residents have already been helping out. For more information contact the program leader for the Kiwanis – Derek Valley at ‭(360) 951-9151‬.
