The City of Olympia is planning a transportation project on Capitol Way/Boulevard between Union Avenue and Carlyon Avenue. These changes will slow down speeding drivers and make it easier for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit riders to use the street.
We are in the early stages of scoping this project and will begin designing it in 2026. If the City is able to get funding from state or federal sources, we will build it in 2028-2030.
Open house
Join our in-person information session on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. We will meet at Olympia City Hall in Council Chambers at 601 4th Avenue E.
City staff will share project information, including concept graphics, proposed timelines, and more. We will give a brief presentation at 5:45 p.m., followed by an opportunity for you to share your thoughts and ask questions about the project.
Project information
These changes will create better conditions for all people traveling the corridor: pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, and drivers. Proposed changes include:
- Enhanced crosswalks
- New bike lanes
- Updated transit stops
- Street resurfacing and repair
- Lane reconfiguration
When the street is resurfaced, we will change the street from 4 lanes to 3 lanes. There will be one travel lane in each direction, with either a center turn lane or a left turn pocket in the middle.
