As we all know, Spring is a beautiful time in our neighborhood – perfect for strolling around, admiring many gardens in bloom, and chatting with our neighbors. It’s also a good time to participate in neighborhood events!
First and foremost is our annual South Capitol Neighborhood Association membership meeting in June where we will say adieu to some of our board members and vote in new ones to take their place.
This year, our annual meeting will be held on Weds, June 10th, 7-8 pm in the Lincoln Elementary School cafeteria. We have snail mailed an invite to all residences and businesses in the neighborhood (unfortunately, they are not delivered to p.o. boxes). But we’ll also put up signs in the neighborhood soon to reach as many folks as possible.
What must we do at our annual meeting?
In addition to electing new board members (or re-electing current ones), our bylaws require us to:
- Read the minutes of the previous board meeting (I’ll keep them short)
- Give two reports (president and treasurer)
- Transact any other business mentioned in the notice, and
- Adjourn
That’s it. If we want to do other things once we finish the official meeting – like social with our neighbors and eat, drink and be merry – we certainly can and will.
In order for us to have a successful meeting, we must have at least 25 members of the South Capitol Neighborhood Association attend. At this moment, we have around 170, which makes us very happy. Many many thanks to those of you who have joined!
And, for those of you who have not yet joined, this plug is for you! It’s quick and easy and free. And, most importantly – we can’t do what we do without your support. Renters are especially welcome and encouraged to join! So, please go to our website and sign up.
And please plan to attend the membership meeting on June 10th. To encourage you to come, we’ll do a door prize drawing for those who attend and give one lucky winner a $100 gift card to Vic’s Pizzeria – so there’s even more reason to be there!
Mark your calendars for our annual meeting on June 10th, 7 pm at Lincoln School cafeteria, and we’ll see you then!
