Please consider joining our board!

Our June annual meeting is approaching, which means change is coming once again to our neighborhood association board.

Board members serve two-year terms, and eight of our 15 members have terms ending in June. Some have decided to run again, but some have chosen not to, so we hope you will join us to say adios and MANY MANY THANKS to them for serving on the board!

Our bylaws require us to have at least 10 and no more than 20 board members. We like having more than the minimum because it helps spread the work around and allows for greater diversity and more robust discussions.

Some of the positions take more time, some take less – but each is what you make of it. The four officers (president, vice president, secretary, treasurer) have specific duties noted in the bylaws, the at-large members do not. So, you can choose to do more or less, depending on how much time and energy you’re able to commit.

John Saunders, Kelley Dolan, Tyler Graber and Valerie Hammett are on the nominating committee to beat the bushes and find candidates. They are required to present a list of nominees at our annual meeting. Nominations can also be made from the floor, so if you think you might be interested and want to wait until the meeting to decide, that’s okay, too.

We’re really hoping some of you will decide that now is a good time to join the board. As I mentioned, each term is two years, but you’re welcome to serve more than one term, or even leave the board for a time and join again later (a number of folks have done this over the years).

You don’t have to own a home to serve on the board. Renters and business owners in the neighborhood are eligible as well and very welcome to join! We definitely want your perspectives and ideas for improving the neighborhood, too!

If you would like to serve on the board or want to know more about what being a board member entails, please reach out to us by filling out the form on our Contact Us page or sending an email to info@southcapitolneighborhood.org and we will follow-up with you.

June 10th is still a few weeks away. So, there’s time to give it some thought.

I do want to add that our association is stronger and better when we have the active support and participation of our neighborhood residents. If you can’t join the board but want to help in some way, please consider becoming a member of the association (it’s free), supporting us by paying voluntary dues to help defray our monthly and annual costs – or both! Neighborhood association members have the added bonus of being able to vote at the annual meeting.

We hope to see you at our June 10th meeting and at the neighborhood events we will be hosting later in the year. More to come on those.

Thanks so much for your support!
