I know you are on the edge of your seat to find out who won the $100 gift card to Vic’s Pizzeria at our neighborhood association annual meeting last week.
But, before I satisfy your curiosity, some thanks are definitely in order.
First and foremost, to everyone who came – thanks so much! We had 47 members of our neighborhood association attend, which more than satisfied the 25-member quorum required by our bylaws. It was fun and gratifying to see such a good turnout, and I and my fellow board members enjoyed chatting with you!
Good news – we now have over 170 members, and the number just keeps growing! Thanks very much to everyone who has joined the neighborhood association. Not a member yet? It’s free and easy to do.
And, if you’d like to support us by paying voluntary dues (suggested donation $15/year) – we’ll put that money to good use!
Our treasurer, Morgan Montes, did a blog post recently, explaining what the dues pay for. Some of the board’s expenses are monthly, and some are one-time costs to print and mail invitation flyers to all residences in the South Capitol Neighborhood, so we can do our best to reach everyone – homeowners, business owners and renters. Your dues come in very handy to help defray those costs as well as others.
In addition to socializing and noshing, the best part of our annual meeting was electing five new members to the board and re-electing our vice president, treasurer and two at-large members. We voted them all in in one big swoop, and now have 16 members, which will help spread the work.
A big welcome to our new members – Joanne McCaughan, Abby Mondau, Theresa Freeman, Ariel Kay-Barto and Charley Haley – for agreeing to serve. And thank you to Gerry Apple, Morgan Montes, Gordon White and Scott Freeman for choosing to serve another term.
Last but not least, many thanks to the volunteers who moved tables, set up and stacked chairs, brought drinks and goodies, signed people in and handed out raffle tickets. We couldn’t have done it without you.
The winner of the door prize drawing was Lauren O’Malley! We plan to do another one at our neighborhood picnic in September – stay tuned for more news on that this summer!
